Dubai-born Jamie Camero has described the past year representing the United Arab Emirates as nothing short of a “dream come true.”
Camero, 18, has proudly represented the UAE in numerous high-profile international events, including the prestigious Espirito Santo Trophy last October.
More recently, she made her debut on the Ladies European Tour and has accumulated a solid number of World Amateur Golf Ranking points through her performances in both local and international tournaments.
“It’s really been a dream come true,” responded Camero when asked what it’s been like to represent the UAE, supported by the Emirates Golf Federation.
“It’s always been something I’d think about, competing in all these high level events and even pro events.
“To make it there is another thing, but I feel like it’s something that’s a result of my hard work. I’m happy, but also very fortunate.
“I’ve had plenty of opportunities to play golf at many different places, of different standards and I think it’s grown me a lot more than just as a player but as a person.”
This week, Camero arrived in the United States to chase her dream through the collegiate golf system, having secured a golf scholarship at the University of Central Florida (UCF).
The youngster said she had watched from the sidelines as other UAE golfers – such as Josh Hill and Toby Bishop – followed a similar path, and that motivated her to do the same.
“The idea came when I saw other golfers here in the UAE commit and I was a bit younger then, probably 12 to 13,” she added. “Then I committed to UCF at the beginning of 2022.
“It’s adjusting to that higher level type of competition. That will be a lot different but that’s what I’m looking forward to the most, and just travelling around America playing different courses.”
