Golf fans ‘tired’ of the LIV Golf vs PGA Tour discussion – Scheffler

Masters champion Scottie Scheffler believes golf fans are becoming “a little tired” of the all the conflicting discussion around LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf has sent shockwaves through the game over the last 12 months with the Saudi-backed circuit attracting and signing many of the game’s biggest stars.

This has caused a fracture in the game with politics often the centre stage as the world’s best players are now not playing against each other week in, week out.

When the World No. 1 was asked his opinion on the matter dividing the game, Scheffler said: “I wouldn’t say that I am around too many people that are, you would say an average golf fan. I think for the most part I’m around my friends, and that’s pretty much it.

“As far as the average fan goes, I’m not really sure. I think they’re probably getting a little bit tired of all the noise.

“I think what’s great about our sport is the competition. That’s what I love the most is coming out here and competing. So if a little bit of the narrative could get shifted back towards that, I think that would be really nice.”

Despite winning the second Major of his career last week and his wife also on the verge of giving birth, Scheffler is set to tee it up again this week at the RBC Heritage.

“I’m not showing up here just to walk around and play a little golf,” added the American. “I left my pregnant wife at home to come here and play in a golf tournament. I am here to play and hopefully play well. I’m not here just for fun.”

Scheffler is set to tee off alongside Jordan Spieth at Harbour Town in round one at 6.30pm UAE time.
