Tommy Fleetwood surged into the halfway lead at the 2025 DP World India Championship, carding a flawless eight-under-par 64 to move one shot clear heading into the weekend.
Starting the day four strokes behind first-round leader and Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry, Fleetwood wasted no time in applying pressure. The Englishman opened his second round from the tenth tee, rolling in birdies at the 11th, 13th and 15th before catching fire with a hat-trick on the 17th, 18th and first holes. Further gains at the fourth and ninth took him to 12-under-par, setting the clubhouse target that none of the afternoon starters could match.
Fleetwood, who began the week with a 68, praised both his execution and the unique challenge posed by the course.
Tommy Fleetwood: “I hit it in the fairway a lot today and gave myself some chances with the irons — it was just a really good round of golf. It’s such a unique challenge for all of us. You rarely hit more than a 5-wood off the tee, the greens are firming up, and the pins have been tricky. It’s been very enjoyable — a real test of patience.”
The reigning FedExCup Champion also relished his two days alongside Lowry, with the pair pushing each other up the leaderboard.
“Unbelievable three-ball,” Fleetwood added. “When you’re comfortable with each other, you just get on with your game. I saw the draw — well, Shane actually told me — and I was really pleased. If I’m playing with him for the next two days, I’m probably doing something right.”
Lowry, meanwhile, sits just a shot behind after a second-round 69 kept him firmly in contention.
Shane Lowry: “I got off to a slow-ish start and made a silly bogey on the par-5, but I finished well and played some nice golf coming in. The course is there for the taking if you hit good shots, but it’s very tricky if you go offline. It’s the kind of course that suits me — lots of mid-irons, which are a strength of my game. Hopefully, I can be dangerous this weekend.”
Fleetwood leads on 12-under, with Lowry among the chasers at 11-under, setting up an enticing weekend battle between two Ryder Cup heroes as the DP World India Championship reaches its halfway stage.
