Fleetwood Finally Breaks Through with FedEx Cup Glory

Tommy Fleetwood has ended years of near misses with the biggest win of his career — his first PGA TOUR title and the FedEx Cup crown at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

The Englishman, making his 164th PGA TOUR start, produced a clutch closing round of 68 (-2) to see off Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley by three shots. It was a long-awaited breakthrough that delivered not just silverware, but also the $10 million FedEx Cup prize.

As the final putt dropped, the emotion poured out. Fleetwood hugged long-time caddie Ian Finnis, embraced his stepson Oscar, and wiped away tears as the crowd chanted his name.

“When you’ve lost it so many times, a three-shot lead down the last doesn’t feel like much,” Fleetwood admitted. “The support I get is so special — I hope everyone knows how grateful I am.”

From Heartbreak to Heroics

Fleetwood’s FedEx Cup story is one of pure resilience. Only weeks ago, he watched Justin Rose — his Ryder Cup teammate — beat U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun in Memphis, leaving Tommy again on the outside looking in.

It wasn’t the first sting either. Back in June, he squandered a two-shot lead with three holes to play at the Travelers, as Keegan Bradley snatched victory.

But in Atlanta, the script finally flipped. A birdie at the second combined with Cantlay’s stumble gave Fleetwood a four-shot cushion early on Sunday. Though the lead shrank to one after the turn, back-to-back birdies at 12 and 13 steadied the ship. From there, he held firm, refusing to let another chance slip.

Second Englishman to Rule the FedEx

Fleetwood now joins Rose as only the second Englishman ever to lift the FedEx Cup. Across the Playoffs, he was a staggering 43-under par through 12 rounds — proof that this wasn’t luck, but dominance.

His patience, persistence and trademark ball-striking finally delivered, and it couldn’t come at a better time with the Ryder Cup just weeks away.

“This wasn’t the most comfortable I’ve ever been,” Fleetwood reflected. “But I had a great attitude, stayed positive, and I was really proud of how I found my swing again when it mattered.”

For Fleetwood, the wait is over. For golf fans, one of the game’s most likeable stars finally has the win his talent has long deserved.
