Ludovico Addabbo battled fading light on Tuesday to preserve his position atop the leaderboard after the second round of the MENA Golf Tour’s season-opening event, though nine players remain within striking distance heading into Wednesday’s finale.
Addabbo Holds One-Shot Lead at PGA Aroeira
The Italian carded a hard-earned 67 at PGA Aroeira to reach 11-under par, maintaining the one-shot cushion he established during Monday’s opening round despite mounting pressure from a tightly bunched field.
“I’m feeling good, my game is pretty solid,” said Addabbo. “I’ve made a lot of birdies in these two days and sank some good putts, so I’m feeling confident going into tomorrow. There’s no game plan—I’m just going out there to have fun and play good golf.”

Figueiredo Uses Local Knowledge to Challenge
Portugal’s Pedro Figueiredo used intimate knowledge of the venue to fire a superb 66 and move into solo second at 10-under. The local favorite, who grew up just 20 minutes from the course, credited his familiarity with the layout after competing in last week’s PGA Portugal event at the same venue.
“I know this course quite well—I used to play here quite a bit as a junior,” Figueiredo explained. “It started well with three birdies on the first three holes, so I thought I was really going to go low. I slowed down in the middle but had a solid finish. My dad was here and a few friends came to watch, so it’s always nice to play in front of people.”
Sandin and Wrisdale Stay in Contention
Monday’s co-leader Sebastian Sandin remains firmly in contention at nine-under, level with England’s Jordan Wrisdale, who surged up the leaderboard with four birdies in his opening six holes en route to a composed 66.
Chris Wood Fires Tournament-Low 65
The day’s standout performance came from last week’s Q School winner Chris Wood, whose tournament-low 65 represented a dramatic improvement from his opening even-par round. The 2016 BMW PGA Championship winner now sits four shots back at seven-under.
“I started really well with four opening birdies but three-putted the eighth for bogey,” Wood said. “I’ve struggled on the greens a little bit this week. I probably played better yesterday but shot level par in tougher conditions. Like any course, once you get to know it, you feel more comfortable. Hopefully I can continue in that vein tomorrow.”
MENA Golf Tour 2025 Season Schedule
The PGA Aroeira Challenge marks the first of 12 events this season offering $100,000 prize funds and Official World Golf Ranking points. It also kicks off consecutive Portuguese tournaments, with the Rolear Algarve Classic at Amendoeira running from 2-4 December.
The MENA Golf Tour then relocates to Egypt for four January and February events before moving to Morocco, where a mid-season Q-Sprint on 22-23 February will provide additional players the opportunity to join the Tour or improve their category status.
