The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) has celebrated the UAE National Team’s historic success at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Golf Championships, recently held in Saudi Arabia. The special Ramadan evening, hosted at the farm of EGF Vice Chairman General Abdullah Alhashimi in Abu Dhabi, brought together Federation officials, players’ families, and elite male and female golfers for a memorable Iftar to mark this unprecedented achievement.
The celebration recognised the outstanding performances of the national team, led by Ahmed Skaik, who made history by securing the Gold Medal with a record-breaking score of 18-under-par (-18), the lowest ever recorded in the championship’s history. Skaik’s teammates—Sam Mullane, Jonathan Selvaraj, and Rayan Ahmed—played a pivotal role in securing the Team Gold Medal, while rising star Mohammed Thabet impressed by earning a Bronze Medal in the Individual Youth category, despite being the youngest competitor in the tournament.
General Alhashimi, addressing the guests, highlighted the significance of this victory as a testament to the Federation’s clear vision and long-term development strategy, overseen by His Excellency Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi. He praised the collective effort behind the achievement, saying:
“What has been achieved is the result of teamwork and integration between the Federation’s management and the technical and administrative bodies, in addition to the great efforts made by the players who raised the UAE flag in this major Gulf event.”
His Excellency Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Emirates Golf Federation, echoed these sentiments, expressing his pride in the team’s success and its wider impact on UAE golf:
“This first-of-its-kind Gulf achievement strengthens the Federation’s ambitions in implementing its long-term strategy to create a new generation of golfers capable of representing the country in regional and international forums. This achievement represents a strong motivation to continue working to develop the base of male and female golfers, with a focus on the junior, youth, and girls’ teams, as they are the future of Emirati golf.”
The UAE’s success at the GCC Golf Championships not only highlights the nation’s growing presence in regional golf but also reinforces its commitment to developing world-class talent for future international competitions.
