Qatar extend their lead at GCC Championship

Team Qatar extended their lead to 14 shots after the second round of the GCC Championship came to a conclusion at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

The Qataris combined to post a team total of one under 215 on the National Course with  Saleh Al Kaabi carding a highly impressive best of the week score of six under par 66. Ali Al Shaharani and Jaham Al Kuwari were the two other qualifying scores for Qatar after the duo posted 74 and 75 respectively.

Team Saudi Arabia moved up to second after 36 holes, while Bahrain sit a further five shots back in third. moved up a place after round two. The UAE are next up in fourth with Oman and Kuwait occupying fifth and sixth on the leaderboard in the six nation regional team event.

In the GCC Junior Under 18 Division, the UAE Junior Team lead the way on 21 over par after 36 holes, with contributions from Abdalla Al Suwaid (77) and Mohammad Skaik (81), in a best two scores from the team of three format for each round.

‘I have played a lot of golf recently over the National Course at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, in both the Presidents Cup a couple of weeks ago, as well as a recent EGF Golf Camp at ADGC in preparation for this week’s tournament,’ said 15 year-old Al Suwaid, who has been playing the game for four and a half years.

The youngster lies in second in the Junior Individual Division, five shots behind Kuwait’s Salem Alabkal, who posted rounds of 76 and 73.
