Jonathan Selvaraj finally lifted the trophy as the winner of the EGF’s Order of Merit Men’s Division on Sunday after a brilliant season in the UAE.
The 20-year-old entered the EGF’s Order of Merit Championship – the final event of the season – so far ahead of the rest of the field he was already the champion with no player able to catch him.
However, he still put in a solid display over 54 holes at Al Zorah Golf Club with rounds of 70-81-72 enough to secure his fifth place in the tournament on seven over par.
When asked to reflect on his season and his new champion status, Selvaraj said: “It feels great. I’ve had a very up and down season. I won a tournament fairly early on the season, then kind of flatlined from there.
“It was nice to win last week, too. There was some good golf in there along with a lot of bad golf which I’ve got to work on.
“I feel like I’ve performed well over the course of the season. I wasn’t really looking at how far second place was behind me. I got to first place fairly early in the season, and just kept it.”
Selvaraj, who also played in both Challenge Tour events in the UAE recently, isn’t letting his foot of the gas anytime soon with plans to remain in the desert over summer months.
“Staying here for the summer,” he added. “I’m going to be practicing, and I’ll be here when it kicks off again in October.”
EGF Order of Merit Championship
Dominic Morton clinched the EGF Order of Merit Championship Men’s Division in a dramatic playoff against Viktor Kofod Olsen at Al Zorah Golf Club.
The duo were tied on level par after 54 holes, but Morton carded a stunning birdie in the extra play-off hole while Olsen could only manage a bogey.
In the Ladies’ Division, Jamie Camero emerged victorious in a playoff against Intissar Rich, both having tied after 54 holes at Al Zorah Golf Club.
