Hyeonji Kang and Dan Byrne top EGF Order of Merit

Dan Byrne and Hyeonji Kang topped the Emirates Golf Federation’s Men’s and Ladies Gross Order of Merit respectively after the season was brought to an early end due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EGF events committee made the tough decision to cancel the remainder of the 2019 – 2020 EGF Order of Merit season due to the ongoing problems posed by the pandemic with the final Order of Merit results calculated and posted based on the events played across all seven divisions.

“It’s always a tough decision to end a season early or cancel events but with the current environment and restrictions around the UAE we feel that this is the right and safe decision for the golfers.” – EGF Secretary General, Mr. Khalid Mubarak al Shamsi.

With 220.6 points, Byrne was the 2019 – 2020 EGF Order of Merit Men’s Division Champion. The young talent, who is a member at The Els Club, had a very consistent season where he posted six 6 top five finishes from the 11 events he played.

Finishing as the runner up was UAE National Team Player Ahmad Skaik. The Emirati enjoyed a great season winning 2 Men’s Opens and represented the UAE while playing in the 2020 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship presented by EGA.

In the Ladies Division, Kang won both the Gross and Net Divisions after collecting three victories from the seven events she played. Natalii Gupta, from the Trump International Golf Club, also won three Ladies Opens on her way to finishing runner up in the Gross Division while Chantal El Chaib completed the top three.

Viggo Sorensen sealed a double triumph after he took home top spot in the Boys Gross and Net Divisions. The Jumeirah Golf Estates member won four events from the ten that he played while Tiaan Labuschagne finished second.

The Girls Gross Division went to Kate Bibby, who collected 221 points after winning three Junior Opens throughout the season.

With the 2019 – 2020, UAE golf season officially over the EGF will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation. The 2020 – 2021 season is expected to start in early October.
