The Els Club Scratch Team made history by advancing to the finals of the UAE Scratch League for the first time as they put Emirates Golf Club to the sword in their own backyard.
Their road to the finals featured dominant performances against some formidable opponents as they saw off Trump International Golf Club, Jumeirah Golf Estates, and the Montgomerie, Dubai to top their group in style.
The semifinals provided a true test of the team’s mettle, pitting them against the highly competitive team from EGC. The first leg, played on home turf at The Els Club, ended in a fiercely contested 2-2 draw but it was the second leg on the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club that saw the real drama unfold.
In a nail-biting finish that went right down to the 18th green, The Els Club pulled off a stunning 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture, securing a 5-3 aggregate win to book their place in the finals.
“The game against EGC tested us in a way we never expected, yet players stepped up during pivotal moments on the course,” said Els Club Team Captain Michael Herb. “The journey this season has been incredible.”
Whilst reaching the final for the first time has ensured the team’s place in Els Club history, they’ll be looking to finish the job and take top honours against the winners of this weekend’s second semifinal between Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Creek.
