Five local golfers move a step closer to Race to Malaysia glory

Five local golfers moved a step closer to representing the UAE in the World Final of the Emirates NBD Race to Malaysia powered by Thriwe after booking their spot in Final Qualifying with victory in their respective divisions at the recently held qualifying event at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Alan McNamara sealed his place at Al Hamra Golf Club after topping Division 1 with a net 70, which included an impressive five birdies, while Anand Rajagopal carded eight net birdies and two net eagles en route to winning Division 2 on a card play-off.

Shankar Majrekar and Sidd Thangirala joined the duo in October’s Final Qualifying after topping Division 3 and Division 4 respectively. Majrekar made an excellent run of five net birdies on the back nine as he posted a net 70 to win on a card play-off, while Thangirala signed for a solid net 72, which included eight net birdies.

The final qualifier came in the form of Division 5 champion Roma Khanna, who carded six net birdies and a net eagle to sign for a net 70 on the Fire course.

The series culminates with Final Qualyifiyng at Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al Khaimah on October 1st where the winners across five different categories will be selected to represent the UAE in the World Final from November 12-19 in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, competing against 46 other countries over six rounds on Malaysia’s finest courses
