The Dubai Golf Trophy is set for a thrilling finale at Emirates Golf Club with the Professionals holding a slender one shot lead as they aim to stop a rot of seven successive defeats in the prestigious competition.
Now in its 23rd year, the action got underway this morning with the foursomes as the pros got off to a fine start, finishing the session with a one point advantage thanks to wins for Sujjan Singh and Michael Bolt, Jackson Bell and Nathan Kernaghan, Luke Plumb and Ryan Smith as well as Graham Forbes and Olivia Jackson, who made history by becoming the first women to compete in the annual showdown.
The amateurs quickly fired back in the afternoon fourballs, winning three of the opening five matches with the other two finishing all square, including Bolt and Singh’s showdown against EGF Order of Merit champion Toby Bishop and Jay Mullane. Just as it looked like the amateurs would put themselves in command for an seventh successive victory, the final three matches went the way of the pros with Munro and Graham Forbes clinching the final match 2&1 to ensure the pros head into the final day with a one point lead.
The action will conclude with the singles matches tomorrow on the on the Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club.
