Ahmed Al Musharrekh, the UAE’s first professional golfer, is set for three consecutive starts on the Pro Golf Tour this month, starting with the Dreamland Classic in Cairo, Egypt.
The 31 year-old had taken a sabbatical from golf, but recently rededicated himself to the game and now plays in this three event schedule on the Pro Golf Tour in Cairo, which has been fully supported by the Emirates Golf Federation.
After competing in the Dreamland Classic, Al Musharrekh will compete in both the New Giza Open and the Allegria Open, with all three tournaments boasting a prizefund of €30,000.
The Pro Golf Tour is classified as one of the Development Tours feeding the Challenge Tour, with the top five players at the end of the season securing Category 13(b) status onto Challenge Tour with players 6 – 10 receiving Category 20 status.
‘I am really looking forward to playing three tournaments in a row over the next two weeks,” said the Emirati.
“I was a last minute invite to play in the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as well receiving an invite to play in the Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital. I am feeling good and well prepared.”
General Abdullah Alhashmi, Vice-Chairman of the EGF, added:
“Golfers at whatever level in the game need playing opportunities to improve. We have watched with interest the career of Ahmed Al Musharrekh in both the UAE as an amateur and more recently as a professional. We are delighted that Ahmed is back into golf and, on behalf of the EGF, we wish Ahmed all the best in these three events and will watch his results with interest.”
