Why isn’t Henrik Stenson playing in the Scottish Open? Coach Pete Cowen reveals his new ‘freak injury’

Henrik Stenson withdrew from the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open and you may be wondering what his injury is? Well it’s a new ‘freak’ one as his coach Pete Cowen revealed on the driving range when we were speaking to him ahead of his latest column for Worldwide Golf.

Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s a new injury,” says Cowen. “Henrik was cleaning out his garage and he pulled something and the elbow smashed up against the corner of the wall. He’s not been able to look at his elbow to see what is wrong with it because it is swollen but as soon as that goes down he will get it x-rayed  and find out when he can use it and then hopefully he’ll be okay for The Open. “I spoke to him on Sunday night and he said it’s just one of those things – a freak thing.”

Stenson has missed just one cut all season with eight top 25s and five top 10s. In his last start, at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, he finished T6.

The 2016 Champion Golfer of the Year is among the favorites for next week’s British Open so he’ll be hoping he’s fit and firing on all cylinders again to try and produce a performance like in 2016 at Royal Troon.
