Ryder Cup star Nicolai Højgaard has stated that he wants to play in the DP World Tour Championship for “the rest of his life.”
The 23-year-old won the 2023 edition of the tournament on the Earth course, becoming a Rolex Series winner. Currently, he ranks 67th in the Race to Dubai standings, while only the top 50 qualify for the season-ending event.
His T-9 finish at the Genesis Championship pushed him into the top 70, qualifying for Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Despite the ranking boost, he still needs a strong result to defend his title in Dubai next month.
“I just really wanted to get to the Play-Offs,” Højgaard said after finishing in South Korea. “I just want to play. It’s one of those events (DP World Tour Championship) that I want to play every year for the rest of my life.”
“It’s one of my favourite events. I’m going to do my best to recover next week and try to have a good week in Abu Dhabi.”
A strong Abu Dhabi finish is crucial to clinch his Dubai spot, with valuable points still up for grabs.
“I need a really good result at Abu Dhabi to get myself into Dubai,” he added. “The golf hasn’t been too bad lately, and if I can recover and get loaded again, I’ll be ready to give it a go.”
