Will Højgaard defend his DP World Tour Championship crown?

Nicolai Højgaard has given himself another opportunity to defend his DP World Tour Championship title after entering the Genesis Championship in South Korea.

The Dane has confirmed his attendance in the final regular event of the season, as he aims to improve his position in the Race to Dubai Rankings and play his way into the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

The 2023 Ryder Cup winner is currently in 85th in the season-long standings, with only the top 70 golfers securing a spot in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, before that is cut to the top 50 the following week at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

That leaves Højgaard in danger of not being able to defend his title at the final Rolex Series event of the season.

He will have the opportunity to improve on his ranking at the French Open this week, but should he fail to secure his spot in the UAE double-header following the tournament at Le Golf National, he will have one more opportunity when he tees it up in South Korea.

“I’m looking forward to coming back to Asia and playing in Korea for the first time,” he said.

“I’ve heard amazing things about the country and hopefully I can be in the mix come Sunday. It’s great to have these opportunities at an exciting time on the DP World Tour, with a lot to play for.”

The youngster won his maiden Rolex Series title at the Race to Dubai finale last season in stunning fashion, birdieing five of his last six holes to claim the biggest victory of his career
