Justin Rose secures Open spot as Sergio Garcia and the UAE’s Joshua Grenville-Wood miss out

Former World No. 1 Justin Rose secured his place at this month’s Open Championship through Final Qualifying, while UAE golfer Joshua Grenville-Wood narrowly missed out.

Rose, who tied for second at the Open in 2018, finished eight under par at the 36-hole qualifier at Burnham & Berrow, clinching first place alongside Amateur Championship runner-up Dominic Clemons.

Grenville-Wood, despite shooting solid scores of 69-72 to finish one under par, was unable to secure one of the final spots available.

The remaining two qualifying places were claimed by Abraham Ancer and Charlie Lindh after they emerged victorious in a three-way playoff with Dubai-based Anirban Lahiri.

At the Dundonald qualifier, England’s Sam Hutsby led the field with an eight under par total, securing his first appearance at The Open.

Angel Hidalgo and Irish Walker Cup player Liam Nolan, both at five under par, also qualified for their debut appearances at Royal Troon. Jack McDonald secured his spot via a playoff.

At Royal Cinque Ports, Matthew Southgate, Elvis Smylie, Jaime Montojo Fernandez (a), and Luis Masaveu (a) earned their places, while Matthew Dodd-Berry (a), Sam Horsfield, Daniel Brown, and Masahiro Kawamura progressed at the West Lancashire qualifier.

Two-time Open runner-up Sergio Garcia missed out on qualifying at the Lancashire links for the second consecutive year, finishing three under par alongside Carlos Ortiz and Mexican amateur Omar Morales.

The Open Championship is set to get underway this year at Royal Troon on July 18-21 and it is the final Major championship of the calendar year. You can find the full results from Final Qualifying here.
