Paul McGinley backs Rory McIlroy to win the 2023 Masters

Paul McGinley has backed Rory McIlroy to win the 2023 Masters and believes he’s better prepared than ever before to do so.

McIlroy is chasing the career Grand Slam having already won the other three Major Championships with his most recent triumph coming at the 2014 PGA Championship.

The 33-year-old is set to tee it up at Augusta this week for the 15th time in his career and if he was to triumph, he would become just the sixth player to achieve the feat.

And McGinley, who captained the 2014 Ryder Cup side which included McIlroy, is backing the Northern Irishman to finally win a Green Jacket.

“I love where McIlroy is at with his putting and now things have settled down off the golf course,” McGinley told Sky Sports. “I think he’s riding a little bit of a wave going in.

“I think he is more prepared now than he has been over the last 10 years to win The Masters.

“His game is better shape and he’s a more complete player, physically and mentally, than he has been before.”

The Masters is set to get underway this Thursday, April 6 at Augusta National GC.
