DP World Tour golfers Wil Besseling and Connor Syme were joined by West Yas Academy students and staff, plus representatives from Miral, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and the DP World Tour to help clean Yas North Beach on Wednesday 18th January.
Miral, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour organised the beach clean-up on the eve of the tournament, at a beach local to the Yas Links venue. During the clean, over 72 bags of litter were removed by more than 20 volunteers from West Yas School, ADSC volunteers, DPWT volunteers and the two players.
As part of its commitment towards protecting Abu Dhabi’s environment, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour have implemented several tournament initiatives for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, with a focus on reducing plastic waste and utilising more reusable materials. There will be no plastic takeaway containers, and 70% of tournament waste will be diverted from landfill. Over 500sqm of solar power has also been installed on site to save over 3500 litres of fuel during the tournament.

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship has always taken sustainability extremely seriously and this beach clean is one example of how the tournament is striving to leave a positive legacy for the local community.”
