European Tour Rookie of the Year thanks the MENA Tour

It came as no surprise when Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre sank his final putt to finish tied 14th at the DP World Tour Championship he secured the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year and also the European Challenge Tour Graduate of the Year. But it was the MENA Tour that set the successful wheels in motion for the young 23 year-old.

MENA TOUR

“The Challenge Tour was absolutely brilliant for me,” commented MacIntyre. “But it was the MENA Tour that helped prepare me for Tour School.”

The European Tour’s Chief Executive, Keith Pelley, was delighted to crown the young Scot during the presentation ceremony: “I think we all agree that Robert is not only a spectacular player that has secured seven top-10 finishes this season to receive both these awards, but he’s also an incredible young man off the course and that’s testament to his upbringing.”

BRIGHT FUTURE

The future looks bright for MacIntyre and Pelley supported this by saying: “I think Robert will play a lot of Major championships and win a lot a European Tour events along the way.”

It’s not all been plain sailing for the young Scot but he quickly adjusted to life on Tour and now he’s up and running without having the financial pressure to deal with.

“The Challenge Tour made me the player I am today,” he added. “I’ve learned how to just spend time in my own company.”

TEAM SUPPORT

Behind every successful golfer is a supportive team and MacIntyre is no exception. “I couldn’t have done all this without the support of everyone from my Mum; Dad; manager and my swing guru David Burns,” he revealed. “He’s changed my game to what is today. When I first went to see David nearly three years ago I couldn’t hit the planet with my driver let alone a fairway.”
