Fleetwood eyes up a two week $7million haul

It’s moving day at the DP World Tour Championship and expect some low scores over the Earth course. Rory McIlroy will come out of the blocks fast as he will want to put yesterday’s 74 behind him and look to emulate the third round 65 he shot in 2015 when he last won the event.

The four-time Major Champion will have his work cut out though, as in form Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm, both tied at nine under, know how to go low round Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Rahm won on debut in 2017 and carded a third round 65, so expect him to put the pressure on over-night leader Mike Lorenzo-Vera. Fleetwood hasn’t gone low recently during a third round but like a champion racehorse the Englishman comes up the rails on the final day.

In his last three starts Fleetwood has shot 64 at the Alfred Dunhill Links, 67 at the WGC HSBC Champions and that eagle-packed 65 to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge last week.

He’s added one Race to Dubai title in 2017 but can Tommy secure number two this weekend?

The current Race to Dubai leader, Bernd Wiesberger, is six shots back from the Englishman and the Austrian will need to stay in touching distance in the hope of being named the European Tour’s Number One golfer for 2019 and clinch the US$2 million first prize on offer for the Race to Dubai champion.

If Fleetwood pulls off his second Race to Dubai title in three years by winning the DP World Tour Championship he will have banked more than $US7 million in less than 14 days!
