Visit Mount Juliet Estate: Ireland’s iconic resort

The internationally renowned Mount Juliet Estate is one of Ireland’s most iconic golf resorts. Situated near Thomastown in the heart of glorious County Kilkenny, it became the first European Tour Destination in Ireland last October, joining one of golf’s most exclusive global networks.

250 year history

Steeped in history, the 250 year old Manor House at Mount Juliet is an architectural treasure, enjoying spectacular panoramic views over the River Nore and Ballylinch Stud.  Only 20 minutes from Kilkenny City, Mount Juliet boasts an extensive range of world class amenities and facilities, including Ireland’s only Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, a state of the art international equestrian centre catering for riders of all ages and experience, the Michelin-starred Lady Helen Restaurant, coarse fishing, extensive walking, jogging and cycling trails, a well-equipped gym plus a relaxing spa and leisure centre with a 17-metre pool.

The course hosted the first of three consecutive Irish Opens from 1993, boasting an illustrious roll of winners in Sir Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Sam Torrance, respectively. In 2002 it hosted the WGC-American Express Championship when Tiger Woods dominated the world-class field to claim victory, and again in 2004 when Ernie Els emerged victorious.

15th century estate

The magnificent 1,500 acre estate, which dates back to the 15th century is currently undergoing a €12 million redevelopment. The existing 31 individually-designed bedrooms, many of which enjoy scenic views over the River Nore and the paddocks of the famous Ballylinch Stud, will soon be increased by 60 additional bedrooms in the Hunters Yard area.

The spectacular 7,300 yards, par 72 layout combines many features – rolling fairways, water hazards, contoured greens – all of which blend superbly into the spectacular landscapes that surround this unique estate. The course is undergoing extensive work to ensure that it is consistently presented in world class condition. The redevelopment of the course and the 250 year old Manor House is part of a €12 million refurbishment project.

Redeveloped

Plans also include the construction of a new golf clubhouse, members bar and changing rooms. Kendals Restaurant will also be redeveloped, creating a new banqueting hall with a capacity of up to 220 diners, with all the work expected to be completed next month. The Nicklaus course celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and with significant investment in new Toro® equipment, expertise and support, has undergone considerable attention.
